Faced with the growing healthcare challenges of an aging society in Taiwan, the Translational Research Center for Innovative Medical Devices at National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University (NYCU) has integrated interdisciplinary R&D achievements to present six cutting-edge smart healthcare technologies at this April’s ATLife: Taiwan Assistive Technology and Long-Term Care Exhibition.
These innovations focus on four key areas—bone health, neurodegeneration, swallowing rehabilitation, and hearing care—offering comprehensive responses to the urgent needs of elderly care and long-term health management. The showcase highlights NYCU’s strong capability in translating research innovation into clinical application.
National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University and Chi Mei Medical Center Collaborate on the Development of the "Autologous Bone Chip Collector," Which Has Obtained TFDA Market Approval.
Congratulations! Dean Jun-Li Lin has been awarded the 113th National Science and Technology Council Outstanding Research Award in the field of Medical Engineering!
NYCU Medical Device R&D Reaches New Heights, Three Innovative Technologies Pass QMS Certification
National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University, after obtaining the QMS (Quality Management System) certification in June 2023, has once again demonstrated its R&D capabilities in 2024, becoming one of the few universities in Taiwan to simultaneously hold multiple QMS certifications as well as medical device manufacturing and sales licenses. This achievement not only highlights our significant position in medical device R&D and commercialization but also lays a solid foundation for deepening industry-academia collaboration.
The Director of the Medical Device Innovative and Translation Center, Professor Jun-Li Lin, stated that the continuous effort to promote QMS certification at Yangming Jiaotong University is primarily aimed at bridging the gap with the industry. In the past, schools and hospitals often overlooked manufacturing, quality systems, and preclinical regulatory testing during the medical device R&D process, which hindered commercialization and clinical application. If a university can obtain multiple QMS certifications for medical devices, it will be able to directly transfer technology to relevant manufacturers, significantly shortening the time to market for the products.
The center is currently preparing to apply for QMS certification for several more products. In the future, it will continue to promote the R&D and application of more innovative medical devices, and collaborate with the industry to create safe, effective, and competitive medical products, injecting a continuous stream of innovative energy into the global healthcare field.
